This website provides information for students and teachers who are currently practicing or wish to practice yoga in Birmingham and Barbados with Hridaya Purna / Monica Douglas-Clark. I aim to help students to learn and use yogic practices within their daily life to:

* find ways to relax and deal with stress
* bring balance and awareness to the physical body, the mind and spirit
* develop an achievable personal practice
* be more creative and compassionate with themselves and others.

In addition to teaching general yoga classes I teach on training courses and support the growth of new yoga teachers. I am a tutor on the Mandala Yoga Ashram Teacher Training Course. I teach British Wheel of Yoga Foundation Course. I am a British Wheel of Yoga TPOT Observer and I have trained as a Satyananda Yoga Teacher Assessor.

I also teach specialist yoga classes.  I teach pregnancy yoga courses, postnatal yoga courses and preparing for labour/partner yoga sessions. Pregnant students learn how to deal effectively with the common conditions of pregnancy and prepare mentally, emotionally and physically for labour through the practices. I also have experience in teaching yoga for mental health programmes with institutions such as Mind, and yoga to support drug and alchol rehabilitation programmes

My practice and teaching are shaped by my contact with Mandala Yoga Ashram, the Satyananda Yoga tradition, the British Wheel of Yoga and the experiences from my life.

I am grateful to all teachers that have provided me with such opportunities to learn and I am committed to sharing this learning with all the students who walk with me for a while. Thank you.

Reflection

When you sit for meditation in the morning hours, send out currents of your love and peace to all living beings.

Let us all pray for the peace of all. May absolute peace reign over the whole world. May all nations and communities be united by the bond of pure love. May all enjoy peace and prosperity. May there be deeply abiding peace throughout the universe!
  Swami Sivananda
